Ernie Boyle started Atlas in 1908. After the 1931 earthquake he moved the company to Hastings, where Atlas helped rebuild the region's Art Deco and Spanish Mission streets by hand. Some of the moulds we made then are still in our workshop today.

Talk it through
We'll work through the scope with you: linings, curves, the design or size of a centrepiece, or matching an existing moulding. Then we'll price it.

Cast, fix, finish
Fibrous plaster is cast in our Hastings workshop. Our tradespeople fix and finish it on site, from the GIB stopping to the last run of cornice.

Do you do GIB installation as well as fibrous plaster?
Yes. Alongside our in-house fibrous plaster manufacturing, we install and stop GIB plasterboard for new builds, renovations, extensions and commercial fit-outs, including curved GIB Curveline features, custom bulkheads and Rondo steel framing.
What areas do you work in?
We're based at 309 Eastbourne Street West in Hastings and work across Hawke's Bay, including Hastings, Napier and the surrounding districts. For work further afield, get in touch and we'll talk it through.
Are your tradespeople qualified?
Yes. Many of our team are BCITO-qualified tradespeople who trained with us, and Atlas holds GIB CGI (Certified GIB Installer) status. Our residential work has won back-to-back AWCI Residential Awards of Excellence.
Can you restore original heritage plasterwork?
Yes. Where original moulds survive we cast straight from them, and where they don't we reverse-engineer the profile from what remains and recreate it by hand. Our best-documented example is Toitoi, Hastings Opera House.
How long has Atlas been operating?
Atlas was founded in Auckland by Ernie Boyle in 1908 and moved to Hastings after the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake to help rebuild the region. We've been working in Hawke's Bay ever since.
